What is Sigma Alpha?
Sigma Alpha is a professional agricultural sorority that promotes scholarship, leadership, service, and fellowship among its members.

Do I have to be an agriculture major to be in Sigma Alpha?
As long as you exhibit a sincere interest in agriculture, you can be a Sigma Alpha. However, 70% of chapter membership must be agriculture majors.

What about Sigma Alpha's founding?
Sigma Alpha was founded in 1978 at Ohio State University by five women.

Is Sigma Alpha a social (Panhellenic) sorority?
No. Sigma Alpha is a member of PFA (Professional Fraternities Association), and is a national organization of professional Greek letter organizations. However, it is up to each chapter to decide whether Sigma Alpha will be strictly an honors organization or a social-oriented group. Here on UTM, Sigma Alpha is a social-oriented group.

Can I be in another sorority and Sigma Alpha?
No. Sigma Alpha does not allow dual membership. You may not be a member of a Panhellenic sorority and Sigma Alpha.

How big is Sigma Alpha?
There are more than 60 chapters of Sigma Alpha across the nation, including those at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Middle Tennessee State University, and Murray State University. There are more than 4,000 initiated Sigma Alpha sisters. Membership can be at undergraduate or alumnae levels.
